Joan E. (Eckhoff) Sherman, 76, of Naples, FL passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018. Joan was born on September 23, 1941 in St. Louis, MO to Julius and Ruth Eckhoff. She grew up at Hope United Church of Christ and then was a member of Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church, both of St. Louis, MO, The Presbyterian Church of Hamilton, Hamilton, OH, First Presbyterian Church and Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, both of Naples, FL. In every church, Joan served as an Elder and/or Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Stephen Minister Leader and Bell Choir Director. Joan served on the Mission Committee of St. Louis Presbytery and recognized for her work with Ann Weems, author. After a career in nursing and moving to Naples in 1990, Joan began her work with Hospice as a home visitation nurse. She was the organizer and First Residence Manager of the Hospice of Naples which is now Avow Hospice. Joan retired in 2002.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Reverend Donald W. Sherman; son, Matthew (Kim) Sherman; daughter, Christina (Paige Wheeler) Sherman; grandchildren, Katelyn and Kevin; sister, Judith Owens and brothers, James and John Eckhoff.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church, 1225 Piper Blvd. Naples, FL.
