George Edwin Gardner of Naples, FL formerly of Mound, MN and Cleveland, OH passed away at the age of 88 on August 26, 2020. George was born on October 4, 1931 in Cleveland, OH, the son of Grace and George Gardner. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School and Fenn College in Cleveland, OH and served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy.
Married for over 69 years to his beloved wife, Merida R. Gardner (nee Harrington), they had four children, David, Patricia, Christine, and John.
After beginning his career in tax accounting in Cleveland, George and family moved to Minnesota where he worked as a Tax Manager, retiring from H.B. Fuller in 1993. After retirement, George and Merida moved to Naples, FL.
George was best known for his contagious sense of humor, and an energy that everyone around him loved. He loved being active in the outdoors, and spent many years scuba diving, downhill skiing, motorcycling, and just enjoying his time on the lake.
George is preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia McCabe, son, David Gardner, grandson, Jason McCabe and granddaughter Karen Franek. George is survived by his loving wife, Merida and his daughter Christine Franek (Duane), son John Gardner (Tammy), and daughter-in-law Jean Gardner. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Ronald Gardner (Irene) and sister-in-law Kathleen Harrington and many relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that individuals donate blood to the American Red Cross.
