Fredric Donald Tomkins, 87, of Naples, FL passed away suddenly at Naples Community Hospital on Friday, August 21. Donald was born on April 16, 1933 in Chester, PA, the son of the late Louis E. and Irene B. Tomkins. He was a graduate of the Coast Guard Academy Class of 1955 and, after serving time in the service, spent many years in law enforcement in the National Capital Area and (after retiring to Florida in 1999) as a volunteer Watch Commander in the Atlantic Ocean Neighborhood Watch of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After leaving law enforcement, Donald took over his deceased father’s business in men’s clothing and also formed his own shopping center promotion business, called United Promotions.
Donald, also known as Beepa to his grandchildren, is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Jean, and his children: Alan (Vicky), Janice, Patrick (Michelle) and Lisa (Charley). He is also survived by grandchildren, Courtney (Jamie), Ashley, Stefanie (John), Monica (Drew), Michael (Ashley), Catherine (Kfir), Sean, Jack and Cole. He was fortunate to live to see four great-grandchildren: Avery, August, Aspen, and Anna Beth.
A memorial service will be considered after the Covid-19 pandemic is over.
