Elizabeth "Betty" Culligan (née Power), age 86, was peacefully called home by God, after a brief illness, on Friday, March 20, 2020, bravely at her home in Naples, Florida with family at her bedside. Betty was born in Dublin, Ireland on March 7, 1934, to the late Sadie (née Nolan) and John Joseph Power. She was the first family member to set sail for her beloved America in 1952, at the tender age of 18. She settled in the Chicagoland area, was a dedicated wife, mother, a devout Roman Catholic, and an extraordinarily proud U.S. citizen. She was an accoladed real estate saleswoman, until her retirement. She will be missed for her smile, enthusiasm, endearing Irish brogue and her kindness to many.
She was the loving wife of the late John Martin Culligan; the loving mother of four surviving children, Kevin Culligan, Eileen Culligan, Pauline Pastore (née Culligan) and John Joseph (Cheryl) Culligan and a proud grandmother to many. Later in life she became the loving partner to the late Bartle “Kevin” Smith. She is also survived by her loving sister, Angela Power and brother, Sean (Marietta) Power and was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Collier.
It was Betty’s wish to be cremated. Private family services will be held at a later time.
To honor our mother and as a comfort for our family, please keep our Mom in your thoughts and prayers.
