Barry Craig Quinnies, age 79, passed peacefully at Naples Avow Hospice Monday morning December 11, 2017. Born October 22, 1938 in Milwaukee (West Allis), Graduate of Wauwatosa (East) High School (1956) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A selfless servant leader, he proudly served in many volunteer capacities including President of Delta Kappa Omicron Fraternity, Lions, Boy Scouts, Indian Guides, Trail Blazers, United Way, Germantown Schools and many civic foundations. A lover of the arts, he co-founded the Fox Point-Bayside (WI) Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps, served on the Milwaukee Florentine Opera Board, United Way, United Performing Arts Council and Chaired the Channel 10 PBS Telethon. A lifelong explorer and conservationist, he traveled the world many times with family and friends hunting, fishing and exploring new cultures, supporting many conservation clubs such as Safari Club International, the Door County Land Trust, Milwaukee and Naples Zoos. Avid golfer and Wisconsin sports fan, Milwaukee Curling Club president and member for 22 years. A charitable giver, he supported many organizations such as the Wounded Warriors, VA, culinary arts, Youth Haven, Habitat for Humanity, Naples Hospice. As a business leader and entrepreneur, he served many trade organizations such as Metals Service Center Institute, National Association of Aluminum Distributors, Copper and Brass Servicenter Association, among others. In retirement Barry continued to lead and organize many golf events, activities, trips and charitable outings with vigor, especially at Grey Oaks. A lifelong practicing Lutheran and godfather, he worshiped and served the Lord in congregations in Fox Point and Baileys Harbor (WI) and Naples (FL).
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Toska (Apitz) Quinnies of Naples, FL; sons, Kenneth (Diane), Ricky (Sheila), Gavin (Geneva) and Craig (Patricia); grandchildren, Kayla (Patrick), Natalie (Brett) Lauren (Spencer), Lindsey, Erica, Spencer (Dani), John and Barry. Predeceased by mother, Lucille; father, Ernest and brother, Lee (1945-USAF). He is further survived by his loving sister, Holly (Robert) Werner; brother- in-law, Knut (Ursula) Apitz; godfather to nieces, Bethany (Leo), Tosca (Bruce) and Constance (Butch); nephews, Christopher and Preston (Sue) and niece, Kim, along with many loving family members
Barry will be most remembered for his humor, generous love and dedication to his family and countless friends and the many lives he touched. The family is most grateful to nephew, Christopher and the caregivers at Avow Hospice for their love and tender support.
A memorial service following cremation will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 4150 Goodlette Road, North Naples FL 34103. with refreshments to follow. A memorial service will also be held in Milwaukee at a later date.
